Memory. Legacy. Transformation.
A Month-Long Exhibition, Cultural Arts Festival & Community Celebration
October 24 – November 22, 2026
Festival Vision
Each autumn, De La Vega Art Gallery transforms into a place where art, memory, and community converge for one of Tucson's most meaningful cultural celebrations.
Mariana de la Vega's Día de los Muertos Cultural Arts Festival is more than an exhibition—it is a month-long cultural experience that invites visitors to engage with contemporary art, immersive installations, artist residencies, educational workshops, community traditions, music, storytelling, and shared remembrance.
For four weeks, the gallery becomes a living creative environment where artists, families, collectors, educators, and community members gather to celebrate memory, honor heritage, and experience the enduring power of art to connect generations.
Curatorial Statement
This exhibition and month-long cultural arts festival reimagines Día de los Muertos not as a tradition preserved in time, but as a living, evolving cultural language expressed through contemporary art.
While Día de los Muertos is often understood as an act of remembrance, this exhibition expands that understanding into one of transformation—where memory becomes form, absence becomes presence, and cultural identity continues to evolve through artistic interpretation.
Through painting, mixed media, sculpture, installation, photography, poetry, and collaborative works, participating artists explore themes of ancestry, migration, identity, grief, resilience, healing, and regeneration.
Together, these works honor inherited traditions while embracing new voices, demonstrating that culture is not static—it is continually renewed through the stories we remember, the lives we celebrate, and the art we create.
Festival Experience
Rather than a single exhibition, the festival unfolds as a series of interconnected experiences that encourage visitors to return throughout the month. Every visit offers something new to discover, create, and reflect upon.

Throughout the festival, visitors are invited to contribute:

As each contribution is added, the ofrenda continues to grow, becoming a living archive of remembrance that reflects the collective spirit of our community.

An Immersive Evening Experience
The Cena is envisioned as one of the festival's signature events.
More than a dinner, it is a thoughtfully curated evening where art, light, music, storytelling, symbolic objects, floral design, candlelight, and cuisine come together to create a deeply reflective experience centered on memory, gratitude, and human connection.
